Anyone who knows me (or follows my blog) already knows that I’m crazy about a few things: My cat, my nephew and Disneyland. Well combine two of the three and you have one of the best days ever. My amazing sister just finished school with her Master’s Degree in finance (!!) and her graduation gift from my Mom was a trip to California with the family. And of course the highlight of the trip was Disneyland. Especially now that my nephew is getting a little older and kind of gets it? Oh brother, it was so fun! I thought these would be easy to edit and narrow down, but I had such a hard time! I guess I’m kind of partial to the cuteness that is this kid…

Waiting anxiously for the “choo-choo train“… Just being a cutie…These are probably my favorite pictures of the whole day – his first time on a roller coaster. Oh man, it was so super funny. It’s a kids’ coaster (the Gadget Go-Coaster) and he didn’t cry or anything, so it’s not like we were torturing him. But his little face as we hit that first little hill was just too much!

Teacups of course! Dumbo is one of the favorites, for sure.

We rode “Horsie-Go-Up-And-Down” twice:

Pirates of the Caribbean was a little scary, but he was still a trooper. He’s trying to look happy and cool, although he didn’t want to open his eyes. Haha. Eventually he warmed up and started waving hello to all the pirates.

Here are just a few more of everyone having fun, throughout the day… Can you see why it was the best day? Love you guys!

1. New carpets! New paint! New wall decor! The house is coming together and I’m so excited. Definitely can’t wait until it’s done!

2. Zankou Chicken is probably the meal I look forward to the most every week. If there’s one in your area, give it a try. We usually get a half chicken, some tabbouleh and extra pita bread. If you don’t mind the carbs, their rice is amazing and buttery too. It’s all so delicious! And whatever you do, don’t forget the garlic paste.

3. I am such a cheapskate when it comes to jewelry. The only fancy pieces I have are gifts from very generous people (thanks, honey!) But this is why I love Forever 21. I can barely squeeze into their clothes, but the bling-y rings are my favorite! Can’t seem to have enough of them.

4. The best lip gloss in the whole wide world is Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing lip gloss. I bought 5 small tubes in Paris 3 years ago and finished each one down to the last drop. I tried talking myself out of buying more since they are $14/tube, but I haven’t found anything I like quite as much. Every color rocks.

5. Dave Matthews Band. Duh. But there is a special reason to love them this week. Their summer tour tickets go on sale Friday!! I’ll be going to Shoreline and Salt Lake this year. The shows are still 6 months away, but I can’t wait. Damn, he’s sexy.

socal shootout: behind the scenes

Here are a couple shots showing what goes on behind the scenes at these ShootOuts.

It’s like wedding photography paparazzi!! So you can see, it gets a little competitive to get the shot you want. There are lots of elbows and other people’s flashes that wind up in a good chunk of your photos. But that makes it fun and challenging and forces you to think outside the box. Plus you get tons of experience in a short amount of time and meet a whole bunch of great people. I was lucky to get tickets to this last event, because they sold out in two minutes. So they are definitely gaining popularity. Hope to be lucky enough to attend many more.

socal shootout: romantic couple – affordable wedding photographer

This will be my last installment of the ShootOut photos… And as you can see, we ended it with a bang. This couple is married in real-life and I didn’t find out, until after the fact, that they never actually had wedding pictures taken. So this was a great way to do it – now they have hundreds! And is it even fair that two people who are so good-looking find each other? I mean, come on! They are just a super sexy couple. Yowsa!

For this part of the ShootOut, a mock ceremony was set up. Even though it wasn’t completely realistic, I felt the pressure! Wanted to make sure I got all the important shots on the first try. In real life, you don’t get second chances for things like this! It was definitely good practice. (And had me wishing for a nice telephoto lens too!)

This rotation of the ShootOut made me really want to get a macro lens! I noticed how awesome the rings look with a lens like that. But I worked with what I had and these are not half bad. It was a good challenge too, because it forced me to be creative with the few detail items we were given to work with.
